Current Nisaab Rates

Based on the gold price of (£49.72 per gram)

Based on the silver price of (57p per gram)

The Nisaab represents the minimum threshold of wealth required to fulfil Zakat obligations. It is determined as either the value of 87.48 grams of pure gold or 612.36 grams of silver. Many scholars prefer the lower value, as it enables a larger number of individuals to fulfil Zakat obligations, thereby increasing the number of beneficiaries.

Zakat is a form of worship and is considered one of the most important acts of a Muslim. It is a way for us to purify our wealth and to show gratitude to Allah for the blessings that He has bestowed upon us. The obligation of Zakat is mentioned several times in the Quran, and it is also mentioned in the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

There are several benefits of giving Zakat. Firstly, it helps to purify our wealth, which in turn helps to purify our souls. Secondly, it helps to create a sense of social responsibility and community among Muslims. Thirdly, it helps to alleviate poverty and provide for the basic needs of those who are less fortunate.

In the Quran, Zakat is mentioned alongside prayer (Salah) as one of the most significant acts of worship that a Muslim can perform.

In Surah Al-Baqarah (2:277):

And establish prayer and give Zakat, receive their reward from their Lord, and there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve.”

The Hadith also emphasizes the importance of Zakat. In one Hadith narrated by Abu Huraira, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

“Whoever is made wealthy by Allah and does not pay the Zakat of his wealth, then on the Day of Resurrection his wealth will be made like a baldheaded poisonous male snake with two black spots over the eyes. The snake will encircle his neck and bite his cheeks and say, ‘I am your wealth, I am your treasure.'” – [Sahih Al-Bukhari]
